Footbridge deemed safe to use

path to footbridge

Good afternoon parents and caregivers,

Following safety concerns raised after the intense rain and flood damage, Wollongong City Council have moved swiftly to organise one of their engineers to inspect the footbridge.

The engineer, upon completing their assessment, has confirmed that the footbridge is structurally sound for continued use.

While Council intends to address smaller maintenance concerns relating to the footbridge as well as clearing debris in the general area, these tasks are not high priority - these issues can be addressed without disruption to using the footbridge during the peak drop off and pick up times for students.

Therefore, from the morning of Monday 14 March, students can resume using the footbridge.

My enormous gratitude to our team of General Assistants (special mention to Phil Kilah) - they have done such a wonderful job in clearing, repairing and making safe many areas around the school. Today they have spread a significant amount of road base from the footbridge to the rear school gate to make this long disheveled area considerably safer for students to use. As Principal, I am extremely grateful for their insights, proactive response and backbreaking work following the inundation of rain.

Particular recognition too to our hard-working group of cleaners who have worked tirelessly to mop up the school following the flooding event.

Many thanks for your patience and understanding.

Have a great weekend,

Dan
