Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for 300 hours per year in Years 7 to 10.
PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.
In Year 11 and 12, courses available include:
- Community and Family Studies
- Exploring Early Childhood
- Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
- Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies.
Overview
The PDHPE department is a vibrant, energetic and forward thinking faculty. All PDHPE BOSTES syllabuses are offered and taught by a highly competent and experienced staff. The Year 7 – 10 mandatory PDHPE lessons are taught as PE and PD/Health lessons. Every student is encouraged to wear their PE uniform and participate to the best of their ability. PD / Health lessons are designed to educate students in how to become healthier individuals. PE lessons encourage students to be active and to value being physically active. Elective subjects in year 9 to 12 are offered to cater for students who have a sport and/or health focus. These subjects have proven to be popular with approximately 50% of the student population studying an elective PDHPE subject in each year. The PDHPE faculty has a long tradition of excellent HSC results.
