This program has 35 places and students must have a diagnosed mental health disability to be eligible for placement. Students are placed by a local DEC placement panel as vacancy becomes available. Students must be enrolled in a local high school to be eligible for placement. Figtree High School and Flametree cannot take direct referrals from parents, schools or agencies.
The program began in 1992 as a partnership program with the Wollongong PCYC in classroom provided by the club. It was the first program of its kind in NSW.
Since 2002, with the relocation to "Flametree has become a very successful educational program which offers full-time school placement for appropriate students in Year 7-12 who cannot cope in a mainstream school setting. Educational achievements are highly valued and strong links with several community support and work training agencies are maintained to assist students to develop problem solving and positive, life skills.
