Over the past two weeks, Figtree High School was delighted to host 18 students from Vietnam. It was an exciting opportunity for our school community to be part of the program and also experience the joy of offering the Vietnamese students the experience of immersing themselves in the Australian culture.
We would like to acknowledge and thank all the parents and staff who participated in the program. Parents and teachers from our school community opened up their homes and provided an exceptional example of true Australian hospitality.
Each day, the Vietnamese students participated in intensive English language classes provided by the tour organisers. In the afternoon, the students joined classes across the school participating in our mainstream education. Students from all year groups assisted our guests by helping navigate this exciting new environment.
During their visit, the students engaged in a variety of activities at school and also with their host families. We have heard an array of stories about the exciting times the students have had.
Most importantly, what we have seen is how our school community can come together and welcome visitors from another country and make them feel at home. Some wonderful friendships have formed which we are sure will continue for many years to come.
