Welcome to Figtree High School

Figtree High School is a vibrant comprehensive school that sits near the sea on Dharawal lands beneath our two significant mountains, Djenbella (Mt Kembla) - the grandfather and Djeera (Mt Keira) - the grandmother.

Our vision is focused on success for every student through a culture of respect, responsibility and excellence. All students are known, valued and cared for and their individual learning needs, achievements and strengths are recognised.

Principal's message

“Welcome to Figtree High School.

Established in 1969, Figtree High School is a co-educational comprehensive public high school for students in Years 7 to 12. We are committed to providing a safe, caring and inclusive environment where every student is known, valued and supported to succeed.

At Figtree HS, we focus on educating the whole child. Students are encouraged to take part in a wide range of academic, cultural, sporting, artistic and social activities. Access to a wide range of opportunities include enrichment classes, creative and performing arts, languages, extensive sporting programs, technology-rich learning, and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses.

We are known for the high quality of our teaching and learning and offer a broad curriculum for students in Years 7 to 12. Our school consistently achieves strong HSC results and is well regarded by the local and wider community. We encourage all students to aim high, enjoy learning and strive for personal excellence.

Our staff are experienced, caring and committed to supporting every student to reach their full potential. We also work closely with other local schools through the Figtree Community of Schools, Curriculum Networks Illawarra (CNI) and the Lake Illawarra North Network to strengthen teaching and learning.

We promote the values of respect, responsibility and excellence. These values guide our daily practices and support positive outcomes for all students.

Strong relationships between students, staff and families are at the heart of our school, with students at the centre of the decisions we make. We work in partnership with parents and the community to understand each student’s needs and strengths, and support them to become confident, creative, informed and responsible young people prepared for a changing world.

Figtree HS has strong support systems in place. Our school includes an on-site physical disability class, two autism classes and an off-site support unit, the Flametree Campus, to meet the diverse needs of our students.  Support is also offered through our Learning Support faculty and Wellbeing Hub.

Our goal is for students to leave Figtree High as confident, capable and compassionate young people, ready to contribute positively to their community and the wider world.

We are proud of our school and look forward to working in partnership with families and the Figtree Community to support the success of every student.”
