Student opportunities and activities

At Figtree High School, we offer a wide range of programs both inside and outside the classroom to help students develop new skills, discover their passions, and build strong connections within the school community. Our programs include:

Sporting Pathways and Representative Opportunities
Figtree High School offers students a wide range of opportunities to participate and excel in sport, with over 40 teams across 12 different sports. Students can enjoy weekly Wednesday afternoon sport, engage in representative sporting teams for the school, and have the chance to represent the Northern Illawarra Zone, South Coast Region, and even NSW Combined High Schools, fostering both skill development and school spirit.
Creative and Performing Arts Programs
FHS's Creative and Performing Arts faculty delivers a vibrant selection of arts groups, performances, and showcase events that allow students to express their creativity and grow their artistic talents.
Cultural and Language Experiences
Our school incorporates engaging cultural activities such as French Crêpe Day, excursions to New Caledonia, and exchange programs with partnering Japanese schools and families.
Excursions and Incursions
Students at FHS partake in practical learning experiences in the field, including the Year 7 Science excursion to Taronga Zoo, Year 8 TAS trip to Darling Harbour, Year 9 Snow Trip, Design and Technology visit to IKEA, Hospitality excursion to Novotel, White Card training, and the Jamberoo merit excursion.
Public Speaking and Debating
Students are provided with opportunities to develop confidence and communication skills through inter-school debating and public speaking programs.
Lunchtime and Interest-Based Clubs
The school library hosts a variety of clubs and activities during lunches, including chess and puzzle clubs, LEGO building competitions, and other interest-focused groups that provide a fun and inclusive space for students.
Student Leadership Opportunities
Our school facilitates leadership pathways through the Student Representative Council, Creative and Performing Arts Committee, and other student-led initiatives that empower young leaders.

These opportunities enrich our students’ school experience by fostering confidence, teamwork, creativity, and a sense of belonging. Through participation in a wide range of activities, students develop important social and interpersonal skills, strengthen their academic engagement, and form meaningful connections with peers and staff. These experiences help students grow into well-rounded, motivated, and resilient young people prepared for success both at school and beyond.
